2018 Ballon d’ Or: Modric speaks on not winning award

Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric, has disclosed that nothing will change in his career this year if he does not win the 2018 Ballon d’ Or award.

Recall that Modric was shortlisted for the Europe topflight individual prize last month.

The Croatia captain is having the best year of his career after winning the Champions League trophy and leading his country to a second-place finish at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where they were defeated 4-2 by France in the final.

The 33-year-old, who won the UEFA Best player award and the FIFA’s Men Best award this year, insisted that with or without the Ballon d’Or, he is having the best year of his career.

“Let’s see what happens,” FourFourTwo quoted Modric as saying after Croatia defeated Spain 3-2 in the Nations League fixture played on Thursday night.

“I’m very proud to fight for it. If I win perfect, otherwise it will not change anything.

“With or without the Ballon d’Or, it’s the best year of my career.”

Modric added, “Since Solari came, we s…

EPL: Liverpool star, Van Dijk criticises Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo for ganging up against  young defender, Trent Alexandre-Arnold during their Champions League final 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid.

He also accused two other Real Madrid players for what happened after Mohamed Salah’s injury in the final.

Liverpool and Ronaldo-led Real Madrid clashed in the Champions League final back in May, with Los Blancos winning 3-1 in Ukraine.

Many Liverpool fans and players believe the final could have had a different outcome had Salah remained on the pitch.

Salah limped out of the match following a collision with Sergio Ramos.

And Van Dijk has accused Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Marcelo and Karim Benzema, of “ganging up” on youngster Alexander-Arnold.

“Mentally, something changed for Real Madrid once Salah left the pitch,” Van Dijk told De Telegraaf.

“Suddenly, Marcelo, Benzema and Ronaldo all ganged up against our young right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and left the whole right flank free.

“With Salah, …

Mbappe deserves Ballon d’Or, says Hazard

Chelsea and Belgium star Eden Hazard has dismissed the idea he deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or and has backed France attacker Kylian Mbappe to claim the prize.

The race for the 2018 Ballon d’Or is arguably the most unpredictable in over a decade, with several players said to be in the running.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have won the last 10 between them, but neither are considered to be among the favourites after failing to make much of an impact at the World Cup.

Luka Modric was considered to be in line for the individual gong due to his Champions League success with Real Madrid and fine form in Croatia’s journey to the World Cup final, but at club level he has been underwhelming this season.

Hazard starred in Russia and is sparkling for Chelsea, but he does not feel worthy of the award and the winger believes World Cup winner Mbappe should be awarded the prize.

“Even though I had a very good year, we have to keep our feet on the ground,” Hazard told RTBF. “I d…

U.S. to make final statement on Khashoggi’s death, says State Dept.

The State Department has insisted that despite recent reports by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the U.S. had not yet reached a determination regarding the death of writer and activist Jamal Khashoggi.

The State Department also said that there were “numerous unanswered questions.”

The department’s statement came a day after The Wall Street Journal said the CIA had determined that Khashoggi’s death came at the directive of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).

Jamal Khashoggi

That story was first reported on by The Washington Post.
However, the Saudi government denied the claim, according to The Associated Press.

“The United States government is determined to hold all those responsible for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi accountable. Recent reports indicating that the U.S. government has made a final conclusion are inaccurate.

“There remain numerous unanswered questions with respect to the murder of Mr. Khashoggi. The State Department will continue to seek all relevant facts,” S…

BREAKING:- Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes The Most Followed Person On Instagram

Five-time world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo became the most followed person on Instagram on Monday.

The Juventus forward surpassed American actress and pop star Selena Gomez, who has held the title since 2016.

Gomez, 26, overtook Ariana Grande two years ago in a list which is dominated by stateside entertainment stars.

But Ronaldo, who at the time of writing has over 144 million followers, has cemented his status as one of the most recognizable figures on the planet.

The Portugal international marked the news in relatively modest circumstances, with an image of him in the gym.

The development comes just months after he swapped Real Madrid for Juventus in a deal worth €100 million (£88.93m/$114m).

Ronaldo has already registered seven goals and four assists in 10 Serie A outings for a Juve side who are already six free at the top of the table.

Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is the next highest sportsperson in 10th position with 104m followers.
